Expert Knowledge, Expert Service, Locally Served
The IT support industry is a total minefield for those who don't know exactly what kind of service they need. We have tried to make things as clear as possible by listing our services out in such a way that at a glance you can see what you need. Dedicating our work to the local areas of Kent and Sussex we are able to offer prompt on-site service delivery, at all times.
Viruses have besieged computer systems for decades, causing devastating damage and compromising our system security. Like a biological virus, a computer virus will rapidly replicate itself and spread between systems to ensure that as many systems as possible are infected.
The most harmful and the most commonplace viruses are engineered specifically for financial gain. Instead of causing obvious damage to a computer and inhibiting its use, viruses will now covertly gather the information desired by its crafty programmer. This can have severe consequences, particularly for unaware and unprotected commercial systems. The most prolific of these viruses is Spyware, a term first coined in 2000 for a program which installs itself illicitly and operates without the user's knowledge. Spyware can be used for directed advertising, or for more harmful and often criminal uses.
We can root out and remove these unwanted programs from your computer system or network and also advise you on the best ways to protect your system.
A computer system that is left unpatched and without a firewall can be compromised within 12 minutes. Knowledge is power, and it is important to know what measures you and your company can take to protect yourselves against malicious programs which can gain access to your computer and the confidential data held therein.
Since the release of Service Pack 2 (Windows XP), you should be immediately alerted by the in-built security system when your anti-virus program has expired and a firewall should be in place to provide back-up protection. However, spyware and viruses are becoming increasingly sophisticated and this first-line defence may not always be sufficient. A system is only as safe as its user and it crucial to keep up to date.
Murden-IT will set up security measures on both your local computers and your networks to make sure that your exposure to potential threats is absolutely minimal. We will also provide expert advice on how to ensure these security measures are not compromised, and in the unlikely event of failure we will be on hand to restore and repair any damage to your systems.
If you are using more than one computer in your home or office, then it is more efficient and potentially safer to have these computers networked in some way. This enables data to be transmitted, and resources such as printers and internet to be shared. There are two main ways that we achieve this, and that is with either cables or wireless. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
Installations & Upgrades
Rather than an impersonal one-size-fits-all service, we offer solutions which are tailored to your specific needs. Whether it's a completely new computer system or a full network setup that your business requires, we can install it. We will only advise upon and build for you that which is absolutely necessary. We provide a uniquely tailored service by researching several different options covering a range of prices, enabling you to choose a solution which suits your budget best.
As systems age and technology develops further, it is necessary to upgrade your computer system and network in order for new software or hardware to be effective. We will analyse your current system and advise you on any suitable upgrade paths to keep your network as safe as possible, and we will also carry out the upgrade itself.
Hard drive failures are not uncommon and all hard drives will break down at some point. It's simply a matter of time. Most manufacturers provide information as to what the MTBF (mean time between failures) is, and this will allow you to estimate the quality of your hardware. On average, a desktop hard drive will be built to last one million hours, which means they should last about 114 years. However, experts within the IT industry believe this to be overly optimistic as a multitude of environmental and technical factors will affect the lifetime of a hard drive.
Some large-scale IT installations have clusters that are approaching one million hard drives. Using the 114 year estimate, this equates to an annual failure rate of 8800 hard drives (0.88%), but far higher failure rates have been observed, in some cases approaching 13% annually.
Therefore, you cannot expect hardware, especially hard drives, to last as long as it theoretically should. If the data contained upon these hard drives is critical, then the data should be backed up in real time, as well as being backed up offsite on a daily basis.
MurdenEnterprise will set up systems that allow you to back-up your data in real time and advise you on the best practices to ensure the integrity of your data. We can also offer you secure and confidential offsite backup over the Internet.
Should the worst happen and you inadvertently lose a large amount of vital business or personal data, MurdenEnterprise can offer you a range of solutions. Data which has been accidentally deleted is usually the easiest to recover due to the fact that it is not the data that has been deleted, but rather the reference to its location.
If you have deleted your data accidentally then you must immediately stop using the computer from which the data was deleted as using it will potentially overwrite the deleted data. This makes it considerably harder to recover.
If you have suffered a hard disk failure it may be necessary to send the disk off to a specialist company, who can replace key components on the hard drive and recover the data.
If you have deleted data and overwritten it with new data, it might be prohibitively expensive to recover the data that was overwritten but it is always worth investigating the seriousness of the situation and finding out your options.
Whatever the problem is, MurdenEnterprise can advise you on the best course of action and in the majority of cases we recover the data onsite, sparing you lengthy and frustrating procedures.
